Facebook University: How Facebook enhances the college experience [INFOGRAPHIC]

Facebook wasn’t around when I was in college. However, while I was in grad school, it finally came to Hofstra and the world would never be the same. The Book evolved over time (remember when it was The Facebook and only open to college students), but there’s no denying the impact it has on the college experience. You can reach out and touch other people from other campuses. You can find out about the latest events and gossip. It can bolster your academic and social life. I did grow up in the Blackplanet era, but Facebook was next level. Sheesh! Check out how Facebook augments the college experience in the infographic below. Props to Pete for the graphics!

The See Friendship option on Facebook: I see problems!

Facebook is a great website. Trust me for all its faults, it’s an excellent way to network, stay in touch, remember birthdays (lol), and socially interact with friends, family, and associates. From time to time, I feel that Mark Zuckerberg and the rest of the geeks get bored and decide to invent the remix at the drop of a dime! I understand technological progression and advancement, I really do, but can we get a heads up?

I remember when Facebook would preview changes to the site, almost like a  ”coming soon” trailer to a movie. Now they just roll out changes and Kanyeshrug.  I wonder how many people thought they were going blind when logging into Facebook today and seeing the 6pt font on the main page. I have NO clue why they did this. The regular font was MORE than sufficient. It doesn’t make the page look any cleaner, and they could rearrange things if they felt they needed more white space.

The biggest change is this “see friendship” option. It’s like the Wall-to-Wall feature on Performance Enhancing Drugs. Basically, if you see two people in your news feeds commenting on the same thing, a wall message, etc, you can see their friendship relationship. This includes pictures they’re both tagged in, all their wall to wall posts, mutual friends, and events they attended (or just said yes too because we know people swindle with that). Mark Z is about to give people another way to end relationships via internet! Here are the ways:

See Friendship is set up like a real page!

So I clicked on one see friendship link, and it’s crazy. The shyt looks like a joint page for the 2 people! In fact, the particular link I clicked, I know both of the people have significant others, so I wondered what they would think of the “profile pic” that Facebook chose to place in the forefront! Perception is reality and it’s about to get even realer

Lurky behaviour is enhanced

If you thought the lurk community had a multitude of resources at their disposal before, you better watch out now! All the nosey, stalkerish, invasive, obsessed individuals now don’t have to work as hard to see the depth of your “connection” to another individual. It’s like the CIA debriefing Obama on national security. They have sensitive information at their fingertips!

If you do dirt, ABORT THE MISSION

Especially if you’re sloppy with yours, lol. They gon fiiiiiiind you!

I expect a typical Facebook revolt and scale back after this latest Shenanigan. It’s gonna be a cold winter!

What do you think of this latest feature? Is it a problem or same ol sh*t? What other areas of live do you feel are easier to invade in 2010?

If I had the idea for Facebook, I would’ve invented Facebook
