#30in30 Day 23: #BeTheBetter Fitness – Phase II

This week, the next step in my fitness journey commenced. I have reached a milestone weight of 185 and have maintained. Now it’s time to get better, more fit, and achieve more. This is the beginning of Phase II. In Phase I, the goal was to lose excess weight, get trim and lean, and give myself a good maintenance base. at ~14.75% body fat and 185, I’ve got that covered. Phase II is another level, and I’m ready to meet it head on!

In this Phase, I have 2 goals.

Get Leaner

My original body fat goal was 12%. In the next 3 months, I think this a more than attainable goal. However, over my last BFFM challenge, I lost about 4% body fat in roughly 12 weeks (2 of those weeks were horrible fitness wise). So, can I replicate that and get to ~10%? It’s a lofty goal, but I don’t shrink in the face of a challenge. This just means more vigilance with my nutrition, less complacency with my current achievements, and continued dedication to my workout plan. Cardio wise, I want to get at least 4-5 sessions a week completed. Weights wise, I’m going to be lifting heavier. I want to build muscle and strength, while burning fat. It’s tough, but with the right balance of cardio and weights, it can be done. I also want to challenge myself to increase my strength, so this should give me great marks to reach.

Get More Flexible

I could never touch my toes. Like…never! For all the athletic things I can do, flexibility has always been my crutch. Increased flexibility leads to a better and stronger body (you can lift more weights with better range of motion, and be more mobile in any sport you play). I want to believe that I can get there, especially seeing all the success stories of people who go from “Fat to fit”. So why not me? I look to increase my yoga sessions (ideal is 2 a week) and research on ways to increase my flexibility.

Right now, my Phase II will last until the week before Christmas. That way I can reassess myself before the new year. I’m not coasting to 1/1/13 resting on my laurels. For a change, I’m going to start off the year in great shape and aspire to get into better shape. Radical Idea Huh?

The goal: 180lbs and 11.5% body fat. 32in waist maintained. 5lbs lean muscle gain.

It will happen. Walk with me! Any tips you can pass me will be appreciated!

  1. You seem to be on top of things…..keep it up!

I’m in the same boat with respect to achieving a leaner physique. Within the past month or so I’ve added 2 weekly sessions of all out sprinting at a local hs track, and they seem to work wonders. Proper stretching beforehand seems to have helped alleviate my lack of flexibility.
