Damn it feels good to see people up on it – Notorious B.I.G.
It’s Thursday AM and I’m beyond excited. Although I’m in Philly for work, I’m taking off at 5pm and shooting back to NYC for a few hours. I handle business in PA in the AM, and have to go to WORK on the football field in the PM. The Midtown Money Makers ride out for another week. See, the good folks at Nike have created this league. We call it the Nike Football Society. In this league, some good people from all walks of life compete to determine who will be the lords of the gridiron. Flag Football is the sport, and victory is the motive! We are outfitted in some of the freshest Nike gear, but dressing for success is only half the battle.
My dude CGF put out the bat signal and I answered. Weeks later, I was in the loop with 13 athletic, spirited, passionate, and competitive individuals who were dedicated to seeing our squad dominate this competition. We want nothing more than to be the crème of the crop, and these individuals motivate me constantly! CGF, Foxx, Aristotle, Joe, Burke, Lita, Sunne, Jamil, Coleman, Ernest, Mal, Neef, and I are 13 gladiators, looking for targets and marching orders. This squad is official!
I have to say I’m extremely impressed with the level of detail that Nike NYC has put towards this event. We have a website tracking us week to week with all our information. The field looks official. The refs, scorekeepers, and atmosphere are everything I would hope for in a league sponsored by Nike. Not to mention the TVs set up with all the games, the food and drinks provided, and impromptu Madden Competitions! This is tailgating on another level! Not to mention how live the crowds are at the game. Crowds have been small, but the trash talk is on another level. Also, the collection of people we got playing on the other teams is sick. Kam, Sean Malcom, Jay, Rich, man listen. We got the league beyond hyped!
I love football, but basketball is always my #1. I appreciate football because it is a game of wills. You can will yourself to be the greatest, and plays are always huge! I’ve played more organized basketball than football, and in fact, Week 1 was probably the first time I’ve ever worn cleats! None of my sports ever deemed it necessary for cleats, but it didn’t matter if I was barefoot. I was going to ball out! My favorite position on the field is on the defensive end playing LB or cornerback. I appreciate the flash of offense, and love shifting to wide receiver, but nothing to me is more satisfying than preventing the other team from scoring. That’s when you impose the ultimate will on the other team. You let them know that no matter what happens, you won’t score and you won’t break our will!
Week 1 was a route. We showed out and put the league on notice that we were for real. Week 2 was a wakeup call. We won, but could have played much better and knew where we needed to improve.
Week 3 we are under the lights. Within the darkness of a fall night in New York City, we will compete against the Jamaica Diamond Turf: The last 2 undefeated teams in the league. Duncan McLeod once told me “In the end, there can only be one”. Jamaica reps my home borough, but I’m with #3M tonight! I have no doubt that my team will come out focused and ready to go. I stay angry on field to prevent any sense of comfort permeate my mind. It’s game time. No friends till the clock hits 00:00 and the game is over. That P90X Defense and House: MD Offense is ready to rock. Stay Humble. Stay Victorious. Let’s get it!

I am major jealous that women are included in this league. I would so join this in a heartbeat. I’m really wondering if LA has one of these Nike leagues. I think I need to hit the Heisman on these h*oes. Lol
