#30in30 Day 16: Alias 2 – Final Pen Name & Quick Thoughts on Google Plus

What’s good everyone,

I wanted to use this day to update you on my naming dilemma. As I shared with you in my earlier post, I was looking for a pen name to be more conducive to the mainstream. Not that I want to go commercial, it’s just that I want to have something that sounds like a real name. I got a lot of good suggestions from my comments section, and offline, about what I should do. You may have seen me appending my posts with the aka of Monty Carlo. This was an alias I gave myself during the #NikeFootballSociety games as part of our stellar defense. Think Revis Island, only cooler lol. I like it, but as I change my mind like I change my boxers (often), I just don’t like the total deviation from Streetz. So what do I do?

A lot of you like the name Vaughn Starks. It sounded cool to you and that’s good. I agree. You also like Streetz too. So I thought, as my dude from the Captain Planet would say

“Let our powers combine!”

Yes the show was garbage, but it had a few good episodes! Anyway…

I thought why not keep Streetz and add a first name to make it more human? Some of you suggested this to me and I appreciate it. So I like the name Vaughn too. So Vaughn Streetz it is. It sounds like a hidden character from Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat, but it’s powerful and doesn’t deviate too much from what I want to do. It also sounds like a name, which I can rock with accordingly. People who know me offline know that I have too many damn aliases anyway. My dudes @midtownmo and @williamhstrafe called me the Dean Malenko of aliases. Pretty funny. So yeah, I’m cool with this.

So Vaughn Streetz it is…I think!

One reason that it was important for me to do this is because I want to be more official with my writing credits. When you search articles online, you see that author’s names and pics appear after them (for those who have done the whole Google + profile thing). I’m not a heavy G+ user, but for the sake of writer identification, I’ll sign up as my alias.

Do you guys use Google Plus like that? It has millions of active users now (allegedly), but I just don’t rock it like that. It’s cool to have people in circles and all that, but I don’t actively check it. Let me know if/how you use it, especially if you blog or do stuff with social media. I know HOW to use it, but using it for real is a different animal.

Let me also say that I appreciate the support for my blog and my writing. I never thought I would get the love that you show me, I just wanted to type and get these thoughts in digital form. Much love to you.

I got some funny and cool blogs ahead for you this week. I have to start typing these over the weekend again so I don’t get caught out there, lol… We at Day 16 and I’m going to keep going!!

  1. Dion Suleman says:

    “Vaughn Streetz it is” !!!

  2. No one likes Google +. That’s why our friends at Google have made it a necessary evil by combining it with search results. The more robust your g+ profile is, the better you appear in search. So we all have to get on board. That’s my free tip of the day.

I like the name Vaughan Streetz. But you’ll always be Duckface to me, Streetzie :)

  3. On the pen name; it is important to have a real sounding name, without giving everything away!

Vaughn Streetz.. One could get used to it! L☺L

My alias is Tey Carter.. Its the name ill use when I become famous, so I’m getting it out there! Haa haa..

  4. I’m in Google+ more than anything else these days really. The discussion is more diverse and easy to manage than fb and twitter. Each has its own purpose for me though.
