Like everyone else in the world, I get stressed out. I stress out at work, at home, even on vacation sometimes. I’m usually good at managing stress but there’s always times where I feel like I can’t win and every force in the Universe is against me. I got this feeling most recently on Memorial Day. The internet was malfunctioning in my house. The router was dropping connection on all of our computers, and then the modem faltered. I tried everything I knew, and nothing seemed to work. I was frustrated mainly because I studied Computer Science in college and feel like those types of technology issues should be elementary. Anytime I can’t solve a problem I get upset, and feel defeated. I got real frustrated and literally shouted “I give up!!” before I rolled out to take my mom to dinner for her birthday.
This ended up being the best thing I could do for the situation. Sometimes, your mind gets exhausted and you just need to step back. You need to reset. You need to BREATHE! I had to remind myself that I wasn’t a machine and there was a tomorrow to solve the problem. I left it alone and came back home after work, re-energized and with a new focus. I was able to solve the issue in under 30 minutes and now we’re connected!
Had I just given up, I would’ve forgot an important lesson in life and healthy living: Stress can either defeat you or motivate you for success. Stress has adverse effects on the body. My father always told me to never let stress overcome, because then you’ll go bald, look older, shave years off your life, and you’ll be miserable. Going bald was all I needed to hear to get me to overcome stress!
Here are a few ways I tend to deal with stress
Breathe
The easiest thing to do, yet the one we tend to avoid. You ever work out and hold your breathe? It’s instant death to the exercise! The same applies here. Sometimes you have to step back, take a few breaths, and reassess the situation. Follow the age-old saying: Relax, Relate, RELEASE
Physical Activity
Go out for a run. Go hoop. Lift some weights. Box. Thronx your favorite cut buddy. Any type of physical activity you enjoy will help you to relax and eliminate stress. You’ll get the blood flowing, heart pumping, adrenaline boosting, and you’ll ENJOY YOURSELF. This helps me when I’m frustrated and gets me off the ledge.
Talk to friends/family and vent
Venting helps tremendously with stress reduction. Sometimes I need to get things off my chest, and a friend with a golden ear is a great gift. They can talk you through it, possibly assist, and just be there for you when you need a shoulder to cry on. An invaluable asset in life!
DRINK
Just kidding a little bit. Not trying to start worldwide alcoholism, but a good party with good music and libations wouldn’t hurt. Loosen up!
These help me. what are some that help you?
Stay up,
