Guess who’s back!
Well.. the site’s been back as of a week ago (full force), but I thought it was time to bring back my GlobeTrotter Confession series. For those who don’t know, this series chronicles my travel around the world, and the crazy sh*t that I encounter. I pride myself on being the modern-day Carmen San Diego, minus the grand larceny and infinite travel budget. SO without further adieu, let’s dive into it shall we? [||]
I took a business trip last week to the farming capital of the northeast Upstate NY. Trust me, it’s as glamourous as you can imagine. Anyway I had to book two separate flights on two different airlines due to time constraints. Going there I flew US Airways. As I enter the travel gate, I see the attendants cleaning a plane, which couldn’t be any bigger than an average tour bus. I breathed a sigh of relief knowing that I didn’t have to deal with that… until they tell us to go through the tunnel and we have to walk ON THE TARMAC and up THREE STEPS to the plane! To give you an idea, here is the plane we took:
The plane had about 40 total seats in it. It had a backseat. I’m going to let that marinate for a sec…
I’m always nervous before takeoff. I think landing is the best part of flying because you know it’s going to be over. I hate turbulence with a passion and on a plane this small, you feel every bump, every movement. It’s the closest you get to flying a car, I swear! I was unnaturally calm for this flight though. I think I still couldn’t believe that I was on a plane this small. I felt a rush of adrenaline flying as well, well, but I can’t call it. This plane was so small it reminded me of the classic Street Fighter II biplane:
I made it in the end. Unless I’m on a Caribbean island or somewhere overseas, I don’t think I want to fly in a small plane again. I’ve never flew in a helicopter though and I want to badly.
How do you get over fear fo flying? If you have it how severe is it? Have you flown in a chopper before? Let me know

How is it that you are fearful of flying as much as you fly?
And you know how people say "if you are always talking about things going wrong then the problem might be you"….well. LOL
Nah but for those fearful of flying I don't know of any way to get over that short of hypnotism. Otherwise yall just have to grin and bear it
I don't fear it anymore but I'm always a little nervous. I may never be 100% comfy but you see I do it right? lol
I have an insane fear of flying. The last time I flew I had a full-on panic attack and my sister had to hold my hand and make me count backward from like 100,000,000 until I calmed the eff down.
When I was younger I used to have to fly back and forth from Toronto to Quebec City every week for work. It was hell; especially because moretimes we were on those little sh*t planes like the one in the picture. Once I was sitting in the back seat of that b*tch in the middle of a snowstorm and a gust of wind came and tipped the plane sideways. I screamed my head off.
LOL wow!
I won't even talk about the aborted landing I had in Vegas… or I will when I discuss THAT trip!
LOL yeah THAT landing was something. It didn't bother me so much as the fact that I just couldn't wait to get out away from the fat dude that was spilling over into my seat.
Streetz,
First of all, I have to say that you had me ROLLING when you said the plane reminded you of the Bit plane from Street Fighter II! LOL
But to answer your question, I actually have the same anxiety about takeoffs. I've flown in small planes and always fly in the back.
To relieve the fear of flying, I make myself go to sleep before takeoff. So when I wake up, I'm already in the air.
The funny thing though is that I want to own my own Jet (Cessna Citation X – the fastest business jet on the market – $19.6M)
Turbulence always wake me up… any sudden movement and I'm up! It's crazy.
I want a jet too. Why not? lol
That plane is horrible. I remember the first time I flew on an American Eagle flight. I saw the word eagle, and just new it was some nice, big plane. Ohno. Those eagle planes are tiny, and we had to walk on the tarmac to get to the plane. Now, I don't fly American at all just in case they try to sneak an eagle on me.
Other than that, I love flying, and prefer it to other modes of travel. Though, I haven't been on the Amtrak yet. The best way to get over a fear of flying is to drink before and during the flight. Or fall asleep. The roar of the engine is like a lullaby to me, so after my first drink, I'm usually out until we land.

lol
I've had my SHARE of rickety planes in the last little while. I was never afraid of flying until maybe more recently. A few weeks ago I was coming back from Cuba right when tropical storm Bonnie was dying out…BUT i'm pretty sure that witch was still in full effect because we started experiencing turbulence for a GOOD 45 minutes. I was 100% sure that this was it. Started praying to Deus and errythang for my sins and deciding my life was well lived….anyway u get the pic. I was clutching on to my seat handles violently waking up my travel partner like SON we are BOUT TO CRASH why aren't you having a panic attack!?
Needless to say somehow we did not crash and the big man upstairs saw us through that.
Right now i'm in a SMALLLLLL a** town in British Columbia and to get to this place I had to get on to the tarmac and climb some stairs to the plane just like the one in ur pic except SMALLER. I'm 5'0…I had to DUCK my head to get into my seat (oh and I WAS wearing flats!). This rickety a** plane had it's propellers on the OUTSIDE! O_O The only times i;ve been on such planes was to the Caribbean. OH and EVERYTIME the planes had to turn back because of "maintenance problems"! So as u can imagine, right when we were flying over the Pacific Coast the Pilot comes on the PA talmbout we got to go back bcuz our plane is experiencing maintenance problems!! WHO WANTS TO HEAR THAT WHEN THEY ARE OVER SOME WATER!? Already this plane was violently shaking and barely keeping it together but on top of that it was ACTUALLY broken? No son. I'm not looking forward to getting back on one the same size TOMORROW when I leave this place.
Sorry for going in but I am developing a HUGE fear of flying i'm thinking of getting a prescription for panic attacks because I cannot deal. lol.
See I would have to swim back home. I can't. lol
If I dealt with something like that I might start feeling some kinda way about flying myself. I've dealt with tons of turbulence on planes before and it never bothered me. But then my planes never came out of a matchbox, made of paper mache and had the external propellers. All you had to say was it was carrying farm animals in the back with hay stacks and I think I'd have bust out laughing
