The Nomination Heard Round The World

A speech that’s left me speechless. A dream recaptured, revitalized, and rejuvenated 45 years since a young southern preacher(my brother) made his famous speech. A tangible reality of change, not just an ideal. A candidate who exemplifies change in every sense of the world. A man who could speak to both kings and the common man with one message, sophisticated enough to not sound simplistic, yet simplistic enough to avoid convolution. Lebron James has a marketing campaign which proclaims “We are all witnesses”. That point rings no truer than tonight, where we all became witnesses to one of the best orators of our time officially assuming the mantle of leader of the change revolution.

Barack Obama closed this Democratic National Convention with a deadly precision that would make Mariano Rivera blush. He FINALLY threw the punches his supporters wanted to see. For all those who deemed Obama a pipe dream who spoke in fairy tales and not reality, he offered a multi pronged offensive against the status quo. He challenged John McCain on issues from National Security to the economy to our increasing dangers with global warming. He showed a firm hand and a strength that only true leaders possess. Such quotes as:

“8 is enough!!”

“John McCain said he’d follow Osama Bin Laden to the gates of Hell, but he won’t even follow him to the cave that he lives in”

and others, provided a spark heard around the country. In NY, Times Square was shut DOWN watching the show. I got many a call from people who went to the city just to be witness to history. From Maine to Maryland, Pasadena to Port St Lucie, EVERYONE was eager to be a part of history and better yet, see if Barack could run with the ball, or fumble. This speech showed that he has the accuracy of a Michael Jordan jumpshot, and the hands of David Tyree. LIGHTS OUT!!This production of history was executed with the direction of a Academy Award winning motion picture, only difference was this is REAL. This is actually happening. An African American Candidate has been nominated to lead a major US party. WOW.

I’m no Wolf Blitzer or Anderson Cooper. I know a thing or two about politics, but I’m far from an expert. I back Obama because of what he represents: Change we ALL can believe in and a deviation from “More of the Same”. He inspired me to believe in our system again. This speech solidified my position with Obama. He showed the readiness to face his challengers head on with the force and heat of 1,000 suns. He showed that his back is strong enough to put the entire Democratic party on it and lead us to the White House. He reaffirmed the excellent decision of Joe Biden as a running mate and look a strong ticket.

Win or Lose, Hope has been infused into America. The choice is clear. Let’s see if we can overcome stale divisive politics, scare tactics, and fear of something new to make the decision to take our country in the direction we want. It isn’t about “The lesser of two evils” or “the devil you know”. It’s about having the courage to change, the audacity to aspire, and the belligerence to believe.

Lemme know your thoughts.

Peace.

I like Obama and I'm not knocking his campaign. But I hope folks who are looking for a "change" won't be disappointed when things stay the same. The powers who run this country will NEVER let a "former slave" take over…I'm surprised that people are THAT naive as physical slavery didn't end not too long agoEVERY change was brought my force, not by ballot. Not to sound like an extremist, but hey, it's history. Also, change has to come from WITHIN, not words from a politician.Just something to chew on.Peace-Chi
